Jalebi makers attract an audience at last year's mela

Imtiaz Aslam, boss of Ashoka Bearsden is preparing to wow the 25,000 plus crowd at this year’s Glasgow Mela by cooking up a multi-cultural  cornucopia of cuisine spanning Asia, the Orient and Latin America!Imtiaz is delighted that this is the third year the Ashoka team has been invited to provide food for Glasgow’s biggest multi-cultural festival celebrating the ethnic diversity of Scotland. “We wanted to do something different this year, so we’ve decided it’s time to showcase the talent of our chefs, many of whom have trained in international cuisine in some of the world’s top hotels” says Imtiaz. On the day, revellers will be able to tuck into a pan-Eurasian feast of pakoras, samosas, chicken chaat, chicken or vegetable fajitas or chicken or vegetable chow mein and that’s just for starters! Watch out for a flamboyant display from the chefs as they prepare freshly fired jalabees – an exotically sweet Indian dessert to die for!It will be all hands on deck on the day as Head Chefs Dali of Ashoka Ashton Lane Akeel Shah of Kama Sutra and Deeraj Anand of Ashoka at the Quay are joined by their colleagues across the Ashoka Group to cook and serve up a very special ‘Tea’ in the park on 21st June 2009, the longest day of the year!
